Stanford strengthens campus-wide energy performance through a transformational utility system redesign. Stanford University launched the Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) program to modernize its campus energy system to reduce fossil fuels, improve efficiency, and lower greenhouse gas emissions. As part of its long-term sustainability strategy, the university redesigned its central utility plant, transitioned to a heat-recovery-based hot water system, and connected 155 buildings through an optimized thermal network.
